How Long Does Polished Concrete Last? (Okanagan Conditions)

A polished concrete floor in the Okanagan is not a coating with an expiry date. The shine lives in the slab. How long it looks good depends on the densifier, the grit you stopped at, and what you drag across it.
What actually wears
The paste at the surface is what you walk on. Densifier hardens that paste so it stops dusting. It does not make the floor harder than the aggregate underneath. In a house, chair legs and grit from the yard dull the guard long before they wear the concrete away. In a warehouse, a steel wheel at a joint will spall an edge whether the field of the floor is polished or not.
A floor we hone to 800 grit and burnish can look essentially the same a decade later in a living room, if you keep sand off it. The same floor in a loading bay wants a maintenance pass on the lanes every few years. That pass is a light hone, not a new floor.
Kelowna conditions that shorten the life
Winter salt carried into a garage, even a coated one, eats at edges and at any pinhole. Outside, freeze-thaw is what ends a slab, and polishing is not an exterior finish. If someone polished your patio, the gloss will scratch and the surface can scale. That is the wrong system, not a polish that 'wore out'.
UV does very little to polished concrete. It does a lot to epoxy topcoats. If your floor is yellowing, you have a film, not a polish. Different maintenance, different clock.
Maintenance that is worth doing
Dust mop before you wet mop. Grit is the abrasive. A neutral cleaner, not vinegar, not a 'stone soap' with wax. Felt pads on anything that sits still. A reapplication of guard in a kitchen every couple of years if you want the stain resistance fresh.
Skip the rotary buffer with a aggressive pad from a janitorial closet unless you know the grit. The wrong pad puts in a scratch pattern we then have to hone out. If the floor looks hazy, call us before you buy a mystery product.
A straight answer on years
Interior polished concrete, densified, in normal household use: think in decades, with minor refresh work. Commercial retail: a long service life with planned cleaning, not a recoating cycle. Industrial lanes: the field lasts, the joints need attention. Exterior flatwork: seal it, do not polish it, and expect to re-treat the sealer.
Nothing in that is a promise about a specific lifespan. It is what we see on floors in this valley when the prep was real and the cleaner is boring. Boring maintenance is the whole trick.
