When the slab was treated as a temporary surface and the site was careless, we spend the first day on paint, drywall mud, and gouges. That is still polishable. It just will not be a cream finish. You will see aggregate. We would rather you expect that than be surprised.
Indoor-outdoor transitions
Big sliders mean the interior hone and the exterior broom or stamp meet at a track. We set the polish height so the track still drains and the door still seals. A thick overlay inside can ruin a door that was adjusted to the original slab.
Covered outdoor rooms sometimes get a stain. Open lakeside pads get a sealer. We do not polish the outdoor slab. Wet polished concrete and a sloped approach to the lake is not a floor we will leave you with.
Garages under the house
Many of these homes have a garage below the living space. Odour and dust migrate up the stair. Prep days are isolated, and we choose low-odour topcoats. If the garage slab is also the ceiling of nothing and the floor of the mudroom stair, the details at that door get as much time as the open floor.
Salt from the lake road still rides in on the car. A flake floor with a proper topcoat is the practical choice even when the rest of the house is a quiet polish.
